Performing Arts

Most post-Communist countries are well known for their performing arts. In addition to the more classical genres of ballet, opera, and composition, many are even known for genres and techniques that are today practically unknown in the West – such as circus and puppet theatre. These countries are also well known for having developed works under censorship, whether that be tsarist or communist and many artists today still contend with elements within their societies driven by political and/or religious proclivities. And yet, many of these artists are still recognized for great performances and works. While abroad, taking in the arts scene of your host country is highly recommended as a way to take in both culture and history.
