Art museums showcase the narrative of a society by exhibiting artistic expressions that capture the cultural, emotional, and intellectual currents of different time periods. Art often captures the values that can bind a society together. Art can also just as often question those values. Art museums are very often a part of this dialogue, showing the dichotomy between creation and destruction of social and national narratives. By interpreting and displaying works of art, museums provide insights into the human condition, foster cultural appreciation, and provoke critical thinking about the world. Through their educational programs and exhibits, art museums also engage the public in ongoing conversations about aesthetics, history, and society.
